BMW is bringing its Digital Key Plus feature to Samsung and Motorola phones, expanding beyond the iPhones that have had it since 2021. With Digital Key Plus, you can unlock and start your car with just your phone in your pocket—no need to physically touch the car anymore. This is thanks to Ultra Wide Band (UWB) technology, replacing the old NFC method that required contact with the door.
Once set up, your car will unlock as you approach and lock when you walk away. You can even create up to 18 digital keys per vehicle and share them with others. Plus, it’s all encrypted for extra security.
Compatible Samsung devices include Galaxy S25, Z Fold, and Note20 Ultra models, and the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra (with Android 14+). iPhone 11 and newer, Apple Watch Series 6 and up, and certain Google Pixel devices (like the Pixel 6 Pro) are also supported. Xiaomi, OPPO, and OnePlus devices only work with the basic Digital Key version that uses NFC.
